Annual College Fest

Annual College Fest ‘Kaleidoscope’ is an exciting much-awaited programme/event organized by the students and for the students. The mood of the college sways to one of celebration, revelry and friendship amidst participation from colleges in and around the city. Debates, Elocution, one-act plays, drama and music competitions besides guest performances sustain the tempo. Oriental and Western dance performances are special attractions. The event proves to be a big attraction for students not only of Lady Brabourne College but also of other premier Colleges of Kolkata.

Women's Studies Centre

In collaboration with the Kolkata Police the college has organized programmes for training students in the art of self-defence by women trainers from Kolkata Police which is a part of their community policing initiative named ‘Sukanya’. The first training module of this on-going project was offered in March 2019 and shall continue in subsequent years. The training enables girl students in six forms of self-defence: Taekwondo, Judo, Kick-boxing, Karate, Wushu and Aikido. The girls get to learn techniques like jabbing, kicking, choking to ward off stalkers and harassers. They are trained to tackle any molestation attempt in public spaces.

Yoga

Despite packed academic calendar with University determined deadlines, Yoga practice sessions are organized at intervals so as not to clash with events in the academic calendar. Students are encouraged to acquire yogic skills under the vigilance of certified trainers. The idea is to spread awareness so that students make Yoga a part of their lifestyles in personal time.

Remedial Classes

REMEDIAL CLASSES FOR SC/ST AND THE MINORITY COMMUNITY

UGC-sponsored Remedial Classes for SC/ST and the Minority Community was implemented from 27th September, 2008 in order to nurture and uplift the slow learners, so that the student is equipped to safeguard her interests. According to the UGC norms the remedial classes begin one month after the admission of the students to the college. In the course of teaching process during regular class lectures, slow learners and under achievers are identified by the Head of the Departments and the professors of the departments. They keep a record of the academically poor students and it is their responsibility to address the problems of the weaker students and looks into the academic, motivational and social adaptation pattern of the student.

Remedial Coaching is organized with a view to:

  • Improve the academic skills and linguistic proficiency of the students in various subjects.
  • Raising their level of comprehension of basic subjects to provide a stronger foundation for further academic work.
  • Strengthening the knowledge, skills and attitudes of these students enrolled in subjects where quantitative and qualitative techniques and laboratory activities are involved so that the guidance and training provided under the program may enable the students to come up to the level necessary for pursuing higher studies efficiently.

Impact:

  • The classes have elicited keen interest in the students, and have shown positive reflection in the results of college and university examinations.
  • It is expected that as the course continues there will be more positive reflection in the results at all levels of the academically challenged learners of the college.

Philanthropic Activities

Lady Brabourne College presents a brief resume of the activities of NGO Anubhooti in the accompanying brochure of the organization. The College is proud to announce that the nine Founding Members- Shyani Bhattacharya, Subhanjali Basu, Ramita Hazra, Snigdha Saha, Meghna Biswas, Jyotismita Maitra, Tapaja Bandhopadhyay, Swagata Ganguly, Sinchani Chaudhuri and Bittaja Bandhopadhyay, who saw this vision, are currently students of the sixth semester of the Department of Sociology of the College. Their enterprise is an example of translating their academic knowledge into an Extension Activity to serve the need of society at large. In the initial stages of their successful journey they fruitfully collaborated with the College NSS to serve the underprivileged in the neighboring area of the College. The IQAC celebrates Anubhooti as a living reference point of the Institution’s Mission and Vision of “Woman Empowerment” and hopes that the future may expand scope of collaboration for promotion of social philanthropy.
